Also called: ozt, oz t, troy oz

Troy versus regular ounces

Unit Grams
Troy ounce (ozt) 31.103
Regular (avoirdupois) ounce 28.350
Pennyweight (dwt), 1/20 ozt 1.555
Troy pound, 12 ozt 373.24

A troy ounce is 1.097 regular ounces. Oddly, the troy pound has only 12 ounces, so it’s lighter than a regular 16 ounce pound (453.6 g).

A kitchen or postal scale that reads in ounces uses regular ounces. Precious metal prices are traditionally quoted per troy ounce. See fluid ounce and ounce for the kitchen units.

Converting

Divide grams by 31.1 to get troy ounces. 50 g of silver is 50 ÷ 31.1 = 1.61 troy ounces.

Multiply troy ounces by 31.1 to get grams.
