Print at actual size

The print setting that keeps a PDF at 100% scale, so a printed ruler, grid or template measures what it should.

Also called: print at 100%, actual size, no scaling

The setting to look for

Print dialogs offer page sizing options such as Fit, Actual size, Shrink oversized pages and Custom scale. For anything you will measure from, choose Actual size (sometimes shown as 100% or “no scaling”). Fit can enlarge or reduce a page to the printable area. Shrink oversized pages reduces pages that are too large and leaves smaller pages unchanged. Scaling changes a grid’s intended spacing.

Check before you cut

Print one page and measure a known distance, such as a test square or ten grid squares, with a ruler. If it is off, check that the paper size in the print dialog matches the paper in the printer; see US Letter and A4. Blank edges are normal; see printable area and margins.
