“Chunky” is commonly used for bulky yarn, but regional and manufacturer names vary. Use the label’s category and recommended gauge rather than the name alone.
Check the fabric
Thicker yarn generally uses larger hooks or needles. Two yarns in the same category can still make different fabric. Wraps per inch can help estimate an unlabelled yarn’s category; a washed gauge swatch checks the result for your project.
